On December 4th we will be celebrating 20 years of TRAX operation. To acknowledge this momentous occasion we’ll be out at a few TRAX stations handing gloves and other swag to riders. From 6 a.m. - 8 a.m. we’ll be at North Temple, Courthouse and Central Pointe stations and from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m we will be at City Center and North Temple stations. We’ll also be doing a press event at 1 p.m. at City Center to acknowledge some of the people that have made TRAX possible.
In honor of our 20th, we thought we’d share 20 facts about TRAX with you.
1. One TRAX car weighs as much as eight African elephants, 90,000 lbs.
2. A four-car train is as long as one football field, 320 feet.
3. “TRAXageden” - On September 11, 2015, there was a University of Utah football game, a Jazz basketball game, a Salt Palace event, Utah State Fair, Real soccer game, LDS Church conference, and a Abravanel Hall event. TRAX moved 100,293 people in one day.
4. During the 2002 Winter Olympics, there were 615,000 boardings.
5. A three-car train seats 195 people.
6. A three-car train has standing room for 270.
7. The maximum number of people we can fit on a three-car train is 450 to 600.
8. During most games, TRAX moves 7,500 University of Utah football fans out of the stadium in 15 minutes.
9. TRAX runs along 44 miles of rail.
10. TRAX services 50 stations.
11. 560 UTA employees maintain, operate and manage service for TRAX.
12. TRAX has over 114 cars.
13. It operates from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
14. It operates seven days a week.
15. TRAX runs 362 days a year. (Everyday but Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.)
16. On average, 1,500 people board at the Green Line’s Airport Station.
17. On average, 5,800 people board the Red Line at the University of Utah campus.
18. We hit our 1 millionth rider in 2000.
19. We hit our 10 millionth rider 2001.
20. To date, we’ve had 283.4 million people ride TRAX.
