UVX Fares
Six Years of Success!
Since UVX opened in August 2018, it has become UTA’s most ridden bus route! When launched, the UVX fare was paid for through 2021 by a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement grant from the Federal Highway Administration. Due to additional funding, the Zero Fare promotion was extended an additional two years. We are happy to have provided the community in Utah County with Zero Fare service for so many years.
In addition to UVX's success, it has provided a model for Ogden Express (OGX) and the upcoming Midvalley Express (MVX) line in Murray, Taylorsville, and surrounding areas.
Fare Changes
With all growth comes change. Starting Sunday, August 18, 2024, UTA will begin charging fares on UVX to align with UTA's fare strategy across all other modes. Charging a regular fare ($2.50) for UVX aligns the route with our other local services and will provide long-term support for the transit system.
The majority of riders are BYU and UVU students, staff, and employees, who will still be able to ride at no cost with their student or staff ID. For riders outside of those groups, we understand this will be an adjustment. We are doing our best to provide support, information, and resources to make this a smooth transition.
How To Pay
To maintain this level of efficiency, UVX buses do not have cash or electronic fare collection on board. Instead, riders should pre-pay their fare.The accepted payment methods for UVX are:
- Electronic fare cards — Eco Pass, Ed Pass, or FAREPAY Card
- Transit app tickets
- Paper passes available from our website, customer service locations, and select retailers
- Transfers from bus or rail (valid for 2 hours from time of purchase or activation)
Electronic Fare Cards
If you have an Eco Pass from your employer, an Ed Pass from your college or university, or a FAREPAY Card (regular or reduced) from UTA, tap your card on the card reader when you enter the UVX platform to board the bus. Tap again when you exit the platform.
Eco and Ed Passes are sponsored by your employer or your college. FAREPAY Cards offer a pay-as-you-go option — simply load funds onto the card and tap to ride. Using a FAREPAY Card will also save you money if you are a frequent rider.
Transit App
The Transit app allows you to buy a virtual ticket on your smartphone. Simply activate the ticket when you board UVX and show it to a fare inspector when asked.
Paper Passes
Paper passes are available here on rideuta.com, at UTA Customer Service offices, and at select retailers throughout UTA’s service area.

How Fare Will Be Enforced
UVX fare will be enforced the same way that fare is enforced on TRAX and FrontRunner: a fare inspector will come through the bus and ask riders to show a valid fare or ticket.
Have your pass handy, make sure you have activated a ticket on the Transit app, or make sure to tap your card on the card reader before boarding.
