UTAs Ski Bus Service Concludes Season With Ridership

Other UTA April 14 Change Day adjustments include the start of Sunday bus service to Lagoon

Salt Lake City (April 12, 2024) — As a regular part of April Change Day, the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) will be concluding its Ski Bus service to all seven partner resorts on Saturday, April 13. UTA’s preliminary 2023-2024 Ski Bus season passenger trip data through March indicates an 8% increase on Salt Lake County routes and a 4.3% overall gain from the previous ski season.

“Our resort partners, operators, and UTA ambassadors worked hard this year to make Ski Bus service a valuable resource to thousands of guests and reduce congestion in the canyon for other drivers,” said Andres Colman, regional general manager for UTA’s Salt Lake Service Unit. “These numbers will help us plan for increased riders next year and continue to improve wait times, route efficiency, and a positive experience.” The growth in ridership includes the 95 Vanpool shuttles for employees of four resorts (Alta Ski Area, Brighton Resort, Snowbird, and Solitude Mountain Resort), an expansion of service this season aimed to keep Ski Bus seats open for guests. The employee Vanpools account for 58,930 of the total 389,949 ski service boardings this season. Other Ski Bus improvements UTA made this year included targeting peak service times, providing backup buses when possible, and improving bus flow in and out of the resorts.

“Ski Bus operators are some of our most experienced drivers who stay safe through challenging weather delays and difficult canyon driving. They love creating a positive experience for the riders enjoying the greatest snow on earth,” said Colman. “In addition, 52 UTA employees across the agency volunteered 1,350 hours as Ski Bus Ambassadors, helping riders navigate using the bus at route stops.”

In addition to the conclusion of Ski Bus service, other scheduled changes are set to happen on Sunday, April 14, for UTA’s triannual Change Day. These changes include the addition of service on Sundays on Route 470 to Lagoon and other minor route adjustments. For a full list of changes, please visit rideuta.com/changeday.
