UTA's Strategic Priorities

Utah’s transportation future is our shared responsibility — and we succeed when we move forward together as unified partners. No single agency, project, community, or mode can meet the needs of our fast-growing state alone.

We have a shared responsibility in shaping where transit must go next. Working with communities, leaders, and regional partners, UTA is focused on 3 strategic priorities:

  • Expanding sustainably
  • Maintaining deliberately
  • Advocating regionally

UTA currently serves 77 municipalities across 6 counties and a 1,400-square-mile area and has a responsibility to care for and invest in the system our communities rely on every day — from buses, trains, and paratransit vehicles to the infrastructure that connects them. That commitment is brought to life by our more than 3,000 employees, who share our mission: We Move You.

Whether your community is planning for growth, preparing for service, or exploring how transit can support local priorities, UTA is here as a partner and resource.

  • FrontRunner2X: FrontRunner2X will add 11 sections of double tracking to increase capacity, frequency, and reliability, making it easier for more people to connect to the larger transit system. Senator John Curtis joined me and Carlos Braceras, Executive Director of the Utah Department of Transportation, to discuss advancements in transit, including increased frequency and fare enhancements such as tap-and-go payment.

By the Numbers

  • Zero findings in UTA’s most recent Triennial Review with the Federal Transit Administration
  • Ranked #4 in transit service miles per capita among the nation’s largest urban areas, behind San Francisco, New York, and Washington, D.C., according to the Urban Institute. This reflects Utah’s significant investment in transit service. At the same time, Salt Lake City ranks #10 in transit trips per capita, highlighting an opportunity to connect more housing and jobs to the transit system and make greater use of the service already available.
