UTA statement on SLC-UTs selection as the 2034 Winter Olympic Games host

The 2002 Winter Games showcased UTA's expertise as the primary transit partner, delivering a smooth experience for spectators. Now, we're excited and ready to return to the Olympic and world stage in 2034.

Since then, UTA has transformed. We've expanded the TRAX network, connected the Wasatch Front with FrontRunner commuter rail, and implemented clean-air electric buses. And we’re not stopping there.

New projects are on the horizon, featuring innovative solutions and regional connectivity with more frequency and expanded service on all our modes. Our long-range transit plan for Utah already includes projects that will support the Games like:

  • FrontRunner improvements to open up 15-minute and Sunday service
  • A new TRAX Orange Line from Salt Lake City International Airport to University of Utah Research Park
  • Mid-Valley Express (MVX) bus rapid transit line connecting Murray to West Valley
  • Davis-to-SLC Connector
  • 5600 West Enhanced Bus from Old Bingham Highway Station to the Salt Lake City International Airport

The real winners of the 2034 Winter Games are Utahns. These UTA advancements will add to our world-class transit system and benefit residents and future visitors for decades to come. Learn more about our plan at rideuta.com/lrtp.
