Federal Transit Administration to present 62 million grant for UTAs Midvalley Express

WHAT: Deputy Administrator Veronica Vanterpool from the Federal Transit Administration will present a ceremonial check for $62.8 million to the Utah Transit Authority to fund the Midvalley Express (MVX) bus rapid transit route. The FTA grant funding represents approximately 65% of MVX construction costs. MVX will be the third bus rapid transit route in the UTA system and second to use all-electric buses. Like the popular Utah Valley Express in Utah County and Ogden Express in Weber County, the MVX will feature dedicated bus lanes and signal prioritization to combine the capacity, frequency and speed of light rail with the lower construction cost of a bus system. MVX will connect riders with local destinations like Salt Lake Community College, the Maverik Center, and planned developments through Murray, Taylorsville and West Valley City. The project is 30% complete and set to begin service April 2026.

WHEN: Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, 10-10:45 a.m.
WHERE: The Oak Room in the Student Union building at Salt Lake Community College, 4600 S. Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah
WHO: Deputy FTA Administrator Veronica Vanterpool, Salt Lake Community College President Dr. Greg Peterson, ChamberWest President and CEO Barbara S. Riddle, and UTA Board of Trustees Chair Carlton Christensen
