UTA Board Meetings are the best way to understand what is going on at the agency, as well an important avenue to have your voice heard. Have you ever had a change that you would like to see at UTA or wished that you knew about future plans for your favorite project? Maybe you’re hoping to see the extension of TRAX lines or you want to understand what that construction in your community is all about. Look no further than the weekly board meeting.

How It Works

UTA Board Meetings are usually held each Wednesday morning. Changes to scheduling can take place due to mitigating circumstances, but public notice is always made if the schedule needs to change. Board meetings usually take place at UTA Headquarters in downtown Salt Lake City, but currently, they are held remotely due to the Governor’s COVID-19 recommendations. Board meetings, whether in-person or virtual, are open to the public.

The UTA Board of Trustees presides at each board meeting, with Executive Director Carolyn Gonot in attendance. Other staff members also regularly attend. Currently, the UTA Board of Trustees is made up of three members, including:

  • Chair Carlton Christensen, representing Salt Lake County
  • Trustee Beth Holbrook, representing Davis, Box Elder, and Weber Counties
  • Trustee Kent Millington, representing Utah and Tooele Counties

An agenda is sent out prior to each board meeting, detailing the topics that will be discussed and decisions that will be made. These agendas can be accessed on our website.

Public comment is available before each board meeting. Comments can be submitted via phone, email, or online form, and submission deadline is always the day before the board meeting itself. In the past, public comments have included everything from concerns about route changes to commendations for operators and other employees. If you have a question or concern about anything relating to UTA, submitting a public comment is encouraged.

The Board of Trustees run the meeting. Opening remarks, a safety minute, and an agency report are standard procedure for the first part of the meetings, after which various agenda items are talked through with UTA staff and contractors. These change week to week, and can include budget proposals, audit reports, resolutions, and contracts, among other topics.

All meetings are live-streamed on UTA’s YouTube channel, where they can also be accessed after the meetings conclude.
