Start Date: 2022
Phase 1 (700 East to 200 East) Opening: June 17, 2024
Phase 2 (200 East to 400 West) Opening: December Change Day 2024

Update:
As of June 17th, 2024, UTA has finished installing shelters on Phase 1 of the 200 South Corridor. Routes 2, 205, and 220 are now operating on 200 South in this area. Temporary stops on 100 South between 700 East and 200 East are no longer in service.

Salt Lake City is continuing road work for Phase 2 of the project, and buses will return to 200 South between 200 East and 400 West when it is complete. We will continue to update this page regarding the status of Phase 2 of the 200 South project.

Benefits of the Construction:
The rebuilt 200 South corridor will improve mobility and safety for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists, and provide more efficient and convenient transit for future residents and riders.

What to Expect:

UTA has heard feedback from the public about the desire for buses to return to 200 South as soon as possible. UTA will resume regular service as soon as it is safe to do so. For phase one of the project (700 East to 200 East) we anticipate this change occurring between the April and August Change Days. All routes will remain on detour between 200 East and 400 West until construction on Phase 2 of the project is completed. To be notified of changes to service, sign up for service alerts.

Please see the map below for when restoration of transit service will occur for each section of the project:

Project Background:

  • Salt Lake City began reconstruction of 200 South in 2022. The 200 South Reconstruction project design considers the variety of needs of a functional downtown urban core and will rebuild 200 South between 900 East and 400 West to improve mobility and safety for all users. Construction will continue through 2023. For more information, visit: slc.gov/mystreet/2023/02/16/200south/.
  • When complete, the corridor will have improved bus stops, as well as a dedicated bus lane between 600 East and 400 West.
  • Resurfacing for the first phase of the project, between 900 East and 200 East has been completed, and UTA is preparing to install infrastructure and amenities at all stops.
  • Phase 2 of the project (west of 200 East) is planned for construction in spring and summer of 2024.
  • Due the reconstruction project routes on 200 South, Routes 1, 2, 4, 220, 209, and 205 are on detour. These detours are reflected in all or our trip planning apps. Please know that riders will still be able to get to their destination; it may just take a little longer. For individual route maps, click the thumbnail maps below. Download the Transit app for the most up to date detour information.
