Notification of Changes to At-Grade Crossings in West Jordan, Murray and Midvale Per Utah Administrative Rule R930-5-14

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is beginning construction of the Mid-Jordan TRAX light rail line operating from the existing Sandy/Salt Lake light rail line at the 6400 South (Fashion Place) TRAX station to Kennecott Land’s Daybreak development in South Jordan. The 10.6-mile line will run down the existing Bingham Branch Industrial Spur Railroad corridor. The construction of the Mid-Jordan TRAX line will change the current state of 15 at-grade crossings throughout West Jordan, Midvale and Murray.

Below is a list of affected crossings at the approximate listed addresses:

West Jordan

• 5200 West Old Bingham Highway
• 4800 West 9350 South Old Bingham Highway
• Wasatch Meadows Drive 4490 West Old Bingham Highway
• 9000 South 4200 West Old Bingham Highway
• 4000 West Old Bingham Highway
• Jordan Valley Way and Old Bingham Highway
• 3200 West 8600 South
• 2700 West Sugar Factory Road
• 2200 West Sugar Factory Road
• 8100 South Redwood Road
• 8000 South 1300 West

Midvale

• 600 West 9th Avenue
• 600 West 6960 South

Murray

• 6450 South Cottonwood Street
• 300 West Winchester Street (6400 South)

A Surveillance Review Team including representatives from each local jurisdiction, Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), and UTA have evaluated each of the 15 crossings affected by construction of the project to ensure that final design meets all applicable safety requirements.

Proposed crossing changes include upgraded new track, minor grade changes and adding safety upgrades including construction of raised medians (60 to 100 feet in length) and active warning devices at each applicable crossing. Installing the median and active signal device safety upgrades at crossings will allow municipalities to apply for Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) quiet zone status where both freight and light rail trains will not be required to sound horns.
