Today, the UTA Board of Trustees approved the name of Utah County’s first bus rapid transit line. The Utah Valley Express will serve residents of Orem and Provo, providing frequent service to FrontRunner stations, shopping centers, universities and downtown areas.

UTA relied on public input to name the new line. Last fall, UTA and the Provo Orem TRIP (Transportation Improvement Project) Executive Committee asked the public to share suggestions for a line name. The committee selected their top BRT name choices, which were then submitted for a trademark review. In February, the public was invited to vote for one of three final options: TimpRunner, TimpExpress or Utah Valley Express. Approximately 950 people participated in the voting process, and 524 of those voted for Utah Valley Express. Based on these results, the Provo Orem TRIP Executive Committee selected Utah Valley Express, which was approved by the UTA Board of Trustees at today’s meeting.

The Utah Valley Express is a critical component of Provo Orem TRIP, a road, transit, bicycle and pedestrian improvement project designed to meet growing transportation needs in Orem and Provo. Utah Valley Express buses will run up to every six minutes during peak times. Much of the line will feature exclusive bus lanes, and buses will have traffic signal priority. The Utah Valley Express will open in August 2018.
