Commonly Asked Questions

What is Free Fare Friday?

Free Fare Friday is a one-day event happening on Friday, Dec. 22. Riders can enjoy free service on local bus, express bus, ski bus, PC-SLC Connect service, TRAX, the S-Line and FrontRunner. Paratransit services will be offered free to qualifying riders.

How do I Ride?

Simply board your bus or train – no need to pay cash, buy a ticket or tap your card. Fare boxes on buses will be covered. Ticket vending machines will be turned off. Card readers may still show a green light when tapped, but will not charge your card.

I forgot and tapped the card reader. What do I do?

Your card will not be charged. Please note that card readers may still show a green light when tapped.

Why can’t you offer free fare every Friday, or every red air day?

We depend on fare revenue to operate our service. This event is sponsored by the Salt Lake City Council, Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office and UTA. We could not offer free fare without the financial support of our partners. We hope this event encourages riders to try public transit and make it a part of their regular travel routines, especially during inversion season. We are also exploring options to encourage more riders to use public transit before and during poor air quality days.
