Proposed 2017 Service Changes

Previous 2017 budget blogs provided an overview of the budget and took an in-depth look at planned state of good repair projects. Today, we’re highlighting some of the service initiatives included in the Tentative 2017 budget.

Ski Service

Included in the 2017 budget is funding for one of UTA’s newest routes, 677. This route will make it easier for riders to get from Layton FrontRunner Station, the Layton Hills Mall, hotels and Park & Ride lots to Snowbasin Resort. The route will operate seven days a week and run two trips in the morning and two return trips in the afternoon. Service is scheduled to start on Dec. 18, 2016. The route is one of several recent improvements to UTA ski service, which also includes a reorganization of routes serving Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon to increase frequency and improve parking and connections.

New Amenities

Rides can look forward to new and improved public transit amenities across the Wasatch Front. UTA plans to use a Prop 1 and TIGER grant funding to add bus shelters, benches, cement pads and garbage cans to more than 100 bus stops across our service area. These amenities are designed to make stops more comfortable and convenient for riders, while also improving accessibility for riders in wheelchairs or with limited mobility. UTA will also use Prop 1 and TIGER grant funding to improve bike lanes and sidewalks, making it easier and safer for riders to access public transportation. The locations of these improvements are still being determined - please follow us on our blog, Facebook and Twitter for more information as it becomes available.

A Continuation of 2016 Service Additions

Service improvements launched in August 2016 have received funding to be continued throughout the next year. This includes improved service on Davis and Weber County routes like 455, 473, 640 and 667, the new Midtown Trolley route 628 and Saturday service on six flex routes.
