The 36th annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games are being held in Utah this week, and UTA is serving as the event’s official transportation provider. UTA has retrofitted 23 buses to transport athletes to and from venues in Salt Lake County and Park City, and hundreds of UTA employees are volunteering their time to assist in the transportation effort.

The National Veterans Wheelchair Games are presented by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Paralyzed Veterans of America, as well as corporate and community sponsors. More than 700 athletes will participate in 17 events over the next six days, including everything from soccer to rugby and weightlifting. The event will also feature one exhibition sport – bobsledding – in recognition of Utah’s Winter Olympic history.

UTA volunteers will welcome athletes and their families and ensure that athletes who are in wheelchairs are secured in buses before they are transported to and from events.

“This provides UTA an opportunity to thank our veterans who have made unbelievable sacrifices for our country and all of us,” said UTA Special Services General Manager Cherryl Beveridge.
